How Can Reiki Help Me?

The Power of Spiritual Healing

The spiritual healing art of Reiki has its roots in Japan and is a healing modality to activate one’s own personal wellness. The word “Reiki” comes from the characters “Rei”, which translates to “Universal Life”, and “Ki”, which translates to “Energy”. So, Reiki focuses on the energies in and among all living things. Although Reiki is a spiritual practice, it is not religious in any way. Reiki practitioners focus on guiding the unseen life force energies in their therapy sessions.

Understanding Reiki

To understand Reiki, you have to understand the fundamentals of the life force. Everybody has one, and, ideally, everyone would be able to connect with their fundamental universal energy and have balance and healing as their natural state. A body in perfect balance and harmony has a naturally free-flowing, unobstructed Ki, or life force. This is very similar to the idea of the “Chi” in Chinese health, or the Hindu “Prana”.

When blockages occur in the flow of Ki, imbalances happen that can manifest as physical or emotional ailments. An inhibited flow of Ki can interfere with your sense of well-being and your clarity of thought, and increase your susceptibility to illness or injury.

Blockages can be due to a number of issues: stress, chronic pain, weakened immunity, or emotional trauma. Reiki is especially effective in conjunction with traditional medical therapies for:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Hypertension
  • Migraine and Chronic Headaches
  • Digestive Disorders
  • Seasonal Affective Disorder
  • Insomnia
  • Post-Surgical Healing
  • Panic Disorder
  • Stress Reduction
  • ADD and ADHD
  • Autoimmune Disease

How Reiki Works

During a Reiki session, the practitioner uses gentle touch, or the “laying on of hands” in specific positions around the body in order to conduct the flow of spiritual energy. If you prefer, a hands-off technique can also be used, where the practitioner hovers her hands an inch or two above the body at specific points of focus but is still able to tune in and conduct the Ki. Either method is equally effective and is purely at the client’s discretion.

Clients report that during their session, they can feel sensations of tingling, warmth, or comfortable relaxation. You may feel an overall sense of peace and comfort. The universal life energy encourages the body to relax and let feelings of negativity, fear, anxiety, and tension wash away.

As your Reiki therapist, I will check in from time to time to assess your comfort and ask you to evaluate changes in your physical or emotional state. At times, I may be guided by divine wisdom and receive insights about ways to deepen and extend your body’s healing process. You might find that during the session, you feel the need to point out sensations or ask questions about the process. But overall, you should feel a general sense of calmness and relaxation.

At all times, I am tuning in to your body’s innate wisdom as it directs me to blockages in the Ki so that I can direct healing energy to those points. The goal at all times is to bring your body back into balance so that it can resume its primary function of healing and wellness.

After the session is complete, we will assess together the changes you feel in your body, mind, and spirit. This helps me plan for any future Reiki therapy sessions. You may notice an overall sense of groundedness and calm.

Over the next few days, plan to eat a wholesome, balanced diet and drink a lot of water in order to facilitate the body’s return to balance and centeredness.

How Many Reiki Sessions are Needed?
It fully depends on your experience with the initial Reiki therapy session and your personal goals for healing. For some, a 60- to 90-minute session can restore balance and wellness that allows their body to resume its natural healing functions. For others, a series of shorter or longer sessions will gradually rebalance the Ki, allowing to achieve their wellness goals. We will work together to create a plan to return to healing and balance.

Who Can Benefit from Reiki Healing?
Everyone! Reiki is beneficial to all people, regardless of ailment or circumstance. Because everyone is a part of the universal life force, everyone can experience improvement from Reiki. This includes children, babies, and pets.

What Are Reiki Attunements?
Reiki can be a conduit for opening the gifts of the spirit! As a Master Level 3 practitioner, I have been through the attunement process, which opens the Crown Chakra (the gateway to higher states of consciousness), the Heart Chakra (the bridge between spiritual and earthly aspirations), and the Palm Chakras (focal points for channeling energy for healing).

The attunement process has allowed me to tap into the limitless supply of universal life force energy.  My increased sensitivity to Ki helps me connect with and channel the flow of it within my clients, and the interaction between my Ki and theirs. It allows me to locate and clear blockages more effectively, which, in turn, makes me a more compassionate and potent healer.
