Energy During the Holidays – Keep Some For Yourself

It’s here! It happens every year around this time and every time you promise yourself you’ll be ready, and then you aren’t. You’ll map it out, plan it all perfectly, down to every gathering and every shopping trip. That way all that’s left is to execute your plan… easier said than done!

What am I talking about? I’m talking about surviving the holiday season. Let’s be honest, the holiday season can be a stressful time. What is meant to be a time of giving and cheer can quickly become a time of feeling drained and unbalanced. There’s a lot going on, both around you and inside of you. If one is not careful, anxiety and stress can take over and steal your holiday cheer. So how does one go about preventing that?

  1. Don’t forget about Self – Yes, this is the giving season, but that should also include giving yourself peace, comfort, and tranquility.
  2. Stay Grounded – Physically and mentally, stay grounded. Feel the earth under your feet, whether that’s going for a walk or actually stepping outside barefoot.
  3. Be Present – Read that again, not buy presents (though that’s okay too) but BE present. When with family and friends, be present with them. Enjoy the time together, enjoy the energy that comes with being with other people. If you’re writing out greeting cards, personalize the message. Let the person on the receiving end know that you are truly thinking about them and wishing them holiday cheer.
  4. Don’t forget your Meditation – Literally, don’t forget your mediation time.
  5. Have Fun – Wherever you are, whoever you are with, whatever you may be doing, enjoy it! Ever hear the cliché saying, “Make each moment count?”  Well, what are you waiting for? Make sure you make EACH MOMENT COUNT.

Year round it is important that you not over extend yourself. Be mindful of your energy and how you use it. December and January can be tricky months with holiday cheer and new year resolutions trending all around you. There’s nothing wrong with welcoming the new year with new goals and new resolutions. But let me challenge you to add something new to your routine, if you don’t already do so. Before you start the year with a new/added purpose, finish the current year with gratefulness and acknowledgment. Acknowledge and be thankful for the positives of the year, be humbled and strengthened by the stumbles that you overcame, and make sure you continue to love yourself unconditionally.

On behalf of Roxanne and Wholistic Lotus Pathways, I wish you all a peace-full, joy-full, fun-full, and stress-free (as much as possible) Holiday Season!
